Where This Began

MoonRoot Folk was not created as a brand. It was born from a season of returning.

In 2023, after three years of living abroad in Costa Rica, building a life that felt deeply, genuinely aligned, I returned to the United States.

And something in me did not come back the same.

Not in a dramatic way. In a quiet way. The kind that does not announce itself. The kind that lives in the body before it lives in words. The kind that changes how you see yourself, your work, your relationships, and the life you thought you wanted, slowly, without permission, without a clear starting point.

For a long time I kept trying to find my way back quickly. To rebuild. To return to the version of myself I recognized. To perform the recovery the way I had performed everything else, with discipline, with direction, with visible evidence of progress.

Until I stopped.

Not dramatically. Just quietly stopped trying to fix it.

And in that stopping, something honest began.

Not every season of life is meant for becoming. Some seasons are meant for remembering. Returning. Sitting still long enough to hear yourself again beneath the noise, the expectations, the pressure, and the performance.

I returned to the Stoic philosophy that had been the foundation of my inner life for over a decade. I returned to the somatic practices that had taught me to listen to my body rather than override it. To the Buddhist contemplative practice I have held for 34 years, not as religion, but as a daily returning to what is actually true.

And slowly, not linearly, not on a schedule, something began to emerge.

Not a new woman. The one who had always been there.

That emergence became MoonRoot Folk.

The Philosophy

What MoonRoot Folk holds to be true.

The Foundation

Rooted in Stoic wisdom and somatic truth.

For over a decade, Stoic philosophy has been the invisible architecture underneath everything built here. Not as academic study, as daily practice.

Marcus Aurelius Surrender and Trust

Releasing the need to control outcomes. Building peace from the inside. The soil in which uncovering becomes possible.

Epictetus Sculpting Who You Are

The daily intentional practice of choosing who you actually are over who you have been performing. The prohairesis, the faculty of choice, returned to daily.

Seneca Living It Holistically

Not a hack or a shortcut. A way of life that compounds over time. Coming back to the well regularly, because returning is the practice.
